Because they thrive on low budget film I love film production, was a film student at university, and watching low budget movies makes me feel as if I'm involved in the making of the story. Zombie movies are the least expensive INTERESTING low budget flicks to make, require fairly large casts, and demand very little writing. So zombie movies are jam-packed with mistakes, improvisations and "Oh gawd do you recall when we had to do this and that to cover for the other thing and it came out so WRONG it was funny?"
The really good stuff ("28 Days Later," "Walking Dead," etc.) allow us to deal with survival issues that we are too insulated from in our safe daily lives, demanding that we sharpen our introspection and at least ask, if not answer, questions about our values.
